Joy joy joy!!! Another sushi place to add to my list of faves. My first experience here was in the company of a friend who happens to live around the corner and who is a frequent visitor. Between his recommendations as well as our friendly server, I managed to narrow down the selections to the Great Wall (a special) roll, Rainbow roll, and the Sexy Mexican roll.
We came in about 20 minutes before our reservation, we only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table… everyone was EXTREMELY nice and helpful, I don’t know why other ppl said that the staff is rude.. Everyone was veeeery professional and respectful.
I eat here often because I work a block away. I have eaten at many sushi places and this is definitely one of my favorites. I have also dined here at night and their atmosphere and ambiance is inviting. Excellent sushi and drinks before going to the AMC movie theater next door.
So far, Niu is my favorite sushi restaurant in Chicago. Here’s why:
The sushi is fantastic, but also important: The PRICE is great for the quality (compared to prices/quality at nearby restaurants OYSY and Roka Akor). Niu has extensive food and bar menus, a nice restaurant atmosphere, and really unique specialty rolls .
Their fried rice is very delicious – many Asian restaurants have very salty or oily fried rice but Niu definitely gets it right! Yakisoba (stir fried noodles) is also very good.
For appetizers, I would recommend sea bass or soft shell crab, though I like the sea bass better.
We made reservations for a Friday night and the interior was busy but never completely full so you could probably do with out. Patio is first come first serve and a tight squeeze so be prepared, but dining alfresco is always nice!
They make a good sushi roll here! I came here for drinks and dinner after work, and the food was delicious. It was more than enough for dinner! The atmosphere of this place is pretty swanky – nice place! Perfect setting for catching up with friends!
I’d rate this more of a 4, but I’m giving it a 5 to balance out Charlotte W.’s recent review since her complaints are not about the restaurant yet she gave it a low score anyway, which is unhelpful for assessing the restaurant’s quality.
My Wife took me here for my birthday. We started with the Seabass appetizer, which was a good sign of things to come. Next we ordered another appetizer, Ceviche Flight on our waiter’s (Doo) recommendation. This too was delicious. We let our waiter make further recommendations and they were all outstanding.
